i plan to use a mac to do all my web browsing type stuff

as well as run garageband and do music editing as well as using it for live shows (playing certain tracks and background loops while I play my instruments live)

is it powerful enough to run garageband and maybe attatch a simple synth to it?

    Another vote for G5.

You might be able to get away with the PowerBook for a bit, but the G5 will do a much better job.

My 12" ibook has trouble playing more than 4 consecutive real instrument tracks on garageband :hs:

I'm gonna have to say go with something a little more powerful :)

A powermac would be a little hard to tote around though. But it would still probably be the best choice, i believe they make skateboard type things so you can roll your pm around.

you know, you should just totally demo it at an apple store. Play with it a little and then make your decision because I don't know the level of music editing you want to do.

Most of the demo units will have iLife preloaded. Not to mention its an excuse to play around with a lot of new things =)
