My friend's school is closing out the last model 12" iBook with 1ghz processor, 256mb RAM and 30gb HD for $599. Do you think I should jump on the deal or spend the extra $200 for the current 1.2ghz version iBook?

What are the main differences between the two versions, and is the price difference worth it? BTW - this will be my first Mac.

    :)

which 1ghz model is it? I think they had two different models. One had USB2 and a few other advantages.

For $200 it may be worth it to get a new notebook with a warranty.

They're both new in the box. Does the last revision of the iBook (before this current one) still have airport extreme and what not? etc

    :hs:

none of the ibooks came with airport extreme -- it's an addon, and never came stock.

and new-in-box or not, I don't think the warranty is greater than 90 days on the old ibooks.

You can't get that with the older ones even though they are new in box?

whatever floats your boat, I guess.

I'd rather have a new one, but if you want it, get it.

The price is what makes it REALLY appealing. I'm not looking for anything on the professional level (ie, powerbook). And to me, it's hard for me to see the differences between the two revisions.

The only differences I see are the Airport Extreme and .2ghz in CPU speed. Anything else I'm missing?
