I'm a guy with three ear piercings, I've got a 14g industrial that I got over a year ago and 14g lobes that I got about a month and a half ago. I just got a job as a bank teller and they don't allow any ear piercings on guys. I figure that the industrial will be fine, as the cartilage won't close up too soon if the bar's out all day, but I'll need to take out my lobes every morning at about 830 and put them back in around 5ish. Is it worth it to do so? Will the lobes eventually close up since they'll be empty for so long consistently? Thanks

    Get retainers?

I'm not allowed my lip piercings at work, so I jsut poke them every hour with a lip bar to stop them closing, could try that.

I figured retainers would be just about as noticeable as the rings themselves, so they might be a no-no. Anybody haev any experience?

bank teller....to you aspire to continue pursueing that job? get to manager? You can make money...if not, I'd say fuck it and get a job that pays similarly right now and you won't have to deal with that shit.

Nah I'm just doing it for the summer, might pick up some part time hours once school starts again, but I didn't want to do my old job (golf caddie, no piercings allowed either) and don't have time to find a comparable one, I need money to get an apartment

The industrial will probably close up a lot faster than the lobes will. Get clear retainers and wear them.

Okay sweet, are retainers very expensive? I'm training for the next week so I doubt it'll be a huge deal, but I'd like to get them as soon as possible

Okay cool, I actually checked with one of my supervisors and she said it'd be fine. But the industrial will close faster? I've noticed that when I come home from work the lobes are harder to put in than the industrial. :dunno:

depends on the person, but for me my cartilage tightened up a lot faster than my soft tissue piercings when I used ot take out my jewelry for work... at that point i'd had my industrial for 3 years and still it'd tighten up pretty quicky.

Yeah I ended up just keeping them in, I've actually gotten comments from my boss and coworkers about the industrial, they like em, and I've been stretching using retainers. I feel like a lot of it has to do with who you're working with, but my boss seemed cool, so I asked her about it, and she said it was fine

Actually, for an employer to say that men can't have ear piercings, but women can, is sexual discrimination, which is a big no-no according to the feds.

Oh, i know what a tragus piercing looks like. I wanted to know what the retainer looked like in it. I'm doing the whole interviewing thing next month and have been wondering if i can get away with it or if it's going to look retarded.

My wife used to work as a teller years ago and she had to take her tongue piercing out for it. :wtc: Now she works in a medical office and again nothing aside from normal ear piercings are allowed for the "professional" image. She wants to get her tragus and an industrial done, but I'm not sure it will fly with the office manager and doctors.

    Well, not really.

Because piercing yourself is a choice and it's not sexual discrimination for the boss to tell you to take out piercings because you chose to pierce yourself. Being gay or a different color than everyone else on the other hand, well, there's not much you can do about that.

See where I'm coming from here?
