So I met this new guy..and he really wants to workout with me.. i think it would be cool teach him a little.. but it would slow me down.. and my workouts would take longer..

what do u guys think about this? do u guys prefer working out alone or with a friend/partner?

    thanx for the input.

i way prefer a partner, but they need to be just as motivated/intense and not show up late, talk a lot, waste time, or complain. Have yet to find one.

Having a good one can make a world of difference. Higher intensity and a better attitude along with someone there to push me is priceless IMO.

    depends on the partner

my best friend (and partner) back home talks a lot, but we definitely both get amazing workouts in every time. very motivating

my friend (and roommate) here honestly gives me no confidence. he's inconsistent, doesn't spot properly (on lift offs and help), and no matter what I say he doesn't change -- because he's so damn stubborn.

He's also the same guy that does 2 real reps on bench followed by 8 assisted... every set.

Yeah having someone there ... even just so you try that little bit more to impress/beat them helps a lot. It can be a good psychological motivator and if you get a partner that is motivated or gives you that little bit more can help extremely.

But it all falls down to the partner, if he's only going to put in a few weeks and then quit then it's not worth the effort.

Not really. If you have a good partner, as in someone bigger and stronger and better than you, then its extremely beneficial.

Lately becasue of my schedule I train with my chick. She's a good partner.. and I've trained with elite strength athletes.

You want someone bigger and better, but I get motivated seeing anybody bust their balls (or pussy, in my girflriends case).

She front squats, push presses, bench presses, deadlifts, back squats, etc. and really works hard. Doesn't talk much.

Her handoffs lack on anything above 375 bench wise though... thats the only thing that sucks.

Best option is if you train with someone who is stronger than you, unfortunately we don't all have that luxary.

i workout alone, i prefer the lack of distraction. I would ONLY advise it if you can do it safely. If you have the motivation, i see no NEED for a workout partner, hell good music is all anyone should ever need :big grin:

Because training with Ronnie Coleman or someone you look up to will push the majority of people much harder than just music will.

Although in some cases, I've seen people shut down while training with bigger/stronger people. Like they get too intimidated or something.. donno.

The way i see it (opinion based on experience), If you have a log, and you try to improve on it each time you step into the gym... Thats all you need. But if some of you are lucky enough to find a partner with your goals and motives, it can be usefull. I got sick of running through partners like underwear.

well thats the problem, nobody will find shit most of the time. Hell right now I can't train with my old partner and I don't even bother looking for someboedy to train with.

    .

But lately the gym has been packed I'd much rather get in and get out without messing around.

I prefer alone. I've tried partner but they always eventually flake out - they can't match my dedication. :hs:
