How hard is it to implement myself into the fashion industry. I am a undergrad marketing major and just got accepted into the "sales leadership" program at my University. Skeezing out of law school next year. (got accepted as 1L at couple schools) I really see myself as working as a PR or in sales (not your avg. sales associate) but as project developer and such. I understand moving either to the West or the East will help my chances even more. Any helpful insights are wanted. :)

if you want your hands in everything, then planning would be a good choice

I understand. I'm retaking my LSAT because I wanted to attend a prestigious school in Chicago but if that falls through marketing/fashion was always my backup interest which I do it as a hobbie anyways.

I'm interested in this topic too actually. i would love to be a buyer or work in the fashion industry in some respect because i can't see being a buyer for a major dept. store is an easy job to get. not sure where the road into the industry starts though.

easiest way is to work your way up

you could do any number of courses and still not get anywhere.

if you want to do buying, you would probably need to start in small store/boutique to get the experience.

:werd: honestly degrees don't really mean shit for half the fashion-related occupations. most people working are hipsters that got lucky or career interns. only real way to get to the top is by either being a boss hog at what you do, networking, or giving out as many handjobs as possible (part of networking in fashion). at that stage it's all about efficiency, i recommend a technique called the teradactyl. i was gonna explain it but i whipped up a quick mspaint 4urbenefit

don't do it. run as far as you can from fashion. over saturated with girls and gay men who are in it for the "glamour" of basically being shat on while getting paid very little, if anything. especially in pr, where you will be expected to work for quite some time for either free or very little.

and there's nothing really in Chicago fashion-wise unless you want to be in retail.

i second this. unless you are going to be in Ralph Lauren corporate (god those ppl make SO much $$) or something similar, I would not recommend.

also, being a buyer is not as glamorous as it seems. i did buying for a small boutique for 2 years but I didn't like it bc you end up just buying shit that sells and not what YOU like. in the end its just about the numbers. no fun.

which agency? i want to go to tokyo next. stay clear from kirara...their claim to fame is brad pitt's contract they still have hanging up in their office :hsugh:, but my roomie says they blow

i think two of our guys are going to nyc with major for a bit sometime soon (next few weeks).

and yeah, working in the industry sucks. shit pay, everyone takes themselves really seriously, tons of leeches, etc.
