Got a job in major corporation in NY. Making a website, which I told will be done in PHP. Couple weeks later into the job, I was told that the site will be intergrated into SharePoint and that I need to knwo ASP.NET.

So after 7 years of programming PHP, I am turning to the dark side :hsd:

    Can I learn ASP.NET (C#) in under 2 weeks? I think so

    Anyone have similar expireinces?

I am thinking that this is actually good for my career. having ASP.NET and C# skills definitively will increase my income.

fuck...there are so many asp.net jobs here in OKC that it isn't even funny. I'm going to eventually learn it simply because it increases my marketability...but I just landed a PHP job so it'll be a little while.

Learn asp.net in your own spare time at home, this is an excellent idea if you are up for it. Its the fastest way you will increase your marketablity. That was my plan, but obviously like most people, I never did it, atleast now I am going to learn it.

Yeah I've been thinking I need to do that....hell I NEED to do that. But right now, I'm just enjoying not being in school and getting nice pay checks every couple of weeks.

My employer actually has a deal worked out with New Horizons where we get discounts for training so I've been thinking of taking those. We're also using a PHP framework called Prado which apparently has components that are very similar to C#'s.

If it's .NET, you can use any of the languages. If you know VB, just write VB.NET code and it will run as an ASP just fine.

.NET is free. Only the fancy development tools are expensive. And hell, you can get the cheap development tools for free from Microsoft now.

i was in a similar boat, knew PHP for ages, even did some work with the php.net team in my spare time. But i got sick of some of the things in PHP, and jumped to asp.net using c# and apart from the use of iis, i was pretty impressed with it, and if you know php5 you should be able to make the jump pretty easy.

CakePHP is pretty good. It's pretty solid. The framework I mostly use these days is the framework built into Drupal.
