Here's the lyrics to a great song. I think it really gives some good advice towards life.
Anybody else have any songs/words that they live by also?
    Artist/Band: Van Zant
    Lyrics for Song: Help Somebody
Lyrics for Album: Get Right With the Man

Well grandaddy was a hillbilly scholar,
    blue collar of a man...
He came from the school of
"you don't need nothin' if you can't make it with your own two hands"
He was backwoods, backwards, used words like:
no sir, yes ma'am, by god, I'll be darned, hell yeah I'm American..
and all the years he walked this earth
I swear all he did was work.
He said the devil dreams on an idle horse
so you listen to me squirt..

Don't get too high on a bottle,
and get right with a man.
Fight your fights, find your grace
and all the things you two can't change, and help somebody if you can

    Now Granny said sonny
stick to your gun if you believe in something
    no matter what
cause it's better to be hated for who you are
Than loved for someone you're not.

She was 5 feet of concrete
New York born and raised on a slick city street.
She'll stare you down, stand her ground,
still kickin' and screamin' at 93
I remember how frail she looked
    in that hospital bed
taking her last few breaths of life
    and smiling as she said

Don't get too high on a bottle,
just a little syrup now and then,
    fight your fights,
    find your grace,
and all the things you two can't change
and help somebody if you can,
and get right with a man

I never let a cowboy make the coffee
yeah thats what Granny always said to my Grandad
and he'd say never tell a joke
that ain't that funny more than once
and if you wanna hear God laugh,
    tell Him your plans

Don't get too high on a bottle,
get right with a man, son.
    fight your fights,
    find your grace,
and all the things you two can't change
and help somebody if you can
and get right with a man

and get right with a man

When it comes to girls I like to think back to the last part of a song called "You Never Know" by Immortal Technique. It's about how a girl he loved died while he was in prison (true story.)

Hold the person that you love closely if they're next to you
The one you love, not the person that'll simply have sex with you
Appreciate them to the fullest extent, and then beyond
'Cause you never really know what you got, until it's gone

There's one Garth Brook song that I actually like. He's singing about his wife but this applies to friends, family, everyone:

If I never wake up in the morning
Would she ever doubt the way I feel
    About her in my heart
    If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I loved her
Did I try in every way to show her every day
    That she’s my only one
And if my time on earth were through
And she must face the world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
    Gonna be enough to last
    If tomorrow never comes

One of my favorites...Yeah, I'm a hippy 25 years late
I've also always really liked this one. I'll put the whole song in.

I Love this song at the moment, its just reassurance not to give up

Jo Dee Messina - Not Goin Down

I woke up today with a headache
More bills to pay than a corporation
    Hey, when will it end
My mirror says I could use a break
    An easy day, some appreciation
    Hey how 'bout a friend
When days like these start to fall in on me
I gotta face my reflection and say...hey

    Chorus:
    Been burned by the fire
    Been stuck under water
Strung up on a wire and still the world goes around
Been tossed like a free throw
Knocked out when the wind blows
Pull the curtain on the hurtin'
    'Cause I'm not going down
(I'm not going down no no no

Indside of me is the only
Highway that leads to a true freedom
    Holding out it's hand
I close my eyes and it's all right
The sun will shine on a new horizon
    Just around the bend
Days like these bring out the strength in me
So I can face my reflection and say...

    Chorus

I still get dizzy and frantic, lonely and paniced
But next time I won't let it beat me, no
I can see clearly, I know who I am
And that's how I know I've begun living

LOL I was just thinking about how I have had my moments where the song
"Flagpole Sitta" could've applied to my life.:eek3:
Great song....will have to fetch the lyrics....
K... here they are....(okay so I do own a tv, and I have both on my legs, but I did peirce my tongue! LOl)

I had visions, I was in them,
I was looking into the mirror
To see a little bit clearer
The rottenness and evil in me

    Fingertips have memories,
Mine can't forget the curves of your body
And when I feel a bit naughty
I run it up the flagpole and see who salutes
    (But no one ever does)

I'm not sick, but I'm not well
and I'm so hot 'cause I'm in hell

Been around the world and found
That only stupid people are breeding
    The cretins cloning and feeding
    And I don't even own a TV

Put me in the hospital for nerves
And then they had to commit me
You told them all I was crazy
They cut off my legs now I'm an amputee, Goddamn you

I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And I'm so hot cause I'm in hell
I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And it's a sin, to live so well

    I wanna publish 'zines
    And rage against machines
    I wanna pierce my tongue
It doesn't hurt, it feels fine
    The trivial sublime
I'd like to turn off time
    And kill my mind
    You kill my mind
    Mind...

    Paranoia, paranoia
    Everybody's comin' to get me
Just say you never met me
I'm runnin' underground with the moles
    Diggin' in holes
Hear the voices in my head
I swear to God it sounds like they're snoring
But if you're bored then you're boring
The agony and the irony, they're killing me, whoa!

I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And I'm so hot cause I'm in hell
I'm not sick, but I'm not well
And it's a sin to live this well

    (One, two, three, four!)
