    So interesting story:

I was eating at the university cafeteria the other day and see a flier that was advertising a "self defense" class and they were looking for people willing to help out. In need of more volunteer work in my med school application I decided to help! So I talked with the club leader today and they said that it was a small class that meets once a week and teaches girls basic self defense. Today they did "avoiding the confrontation" by using words, and soon will be working escaping grabs and other such things. They also asked me to email them a list of things I could teach and would let me know which I should do and when I should teach them. I am putting together a list right now, but if you guys have any suggestions (keep in mind these girls have no prior experience in anything and the goal is to defend themselves/get away) please post them.

really tho i'd teach mostly strikes. kicks to the groin, elbows etc. the only ground work i'd probably do would be sweeps. if its self defense they are really probably thinking rape prevention, so ' getting away ' is probably the most important thing really so i probably wouldn't really focus on submissions or anything.

Ive seen an arm drag to rear choke taught for when an attacker reaches to grab a wrist or arm.

Triangle choke and armbar from the missionary postition. You can be like "once the raping begins, do this..."

anything that will get me back off the ground to run when I'm tackled has always been a good idea.

best is two finger poke to the neck. stack your middle and index finger on top of each other, put them on the neck right above the hollow where your collarbone meets, and push in and down as hard as you can. they will get off you because it hurts like a sonofabitch.

dosnt incapacitate them, but gives you space and will almost always make them let go. pretty much my favorite thing to teach in womens or kids self defence classes because it dosnt take much strength and can be done effectively from just about any position.

have them use the guard from a "being raped" scenario, have them hold closed guard and claw at the eyes, then go foot-on-hips and push him away and stand up + run

  13. Any and every type of choke. I've actually seen a guy say, "I think its wrong to hit women but I....I would choke a bitch."
Choke from behind, head lock, bear hug from behind.

I agree with the in the gaurd being rapped scenario.

Eye gouges, throat strikes, nut strike/grab/anihilation

I know its hard to think like a rapist but I guess think like a rapist?

I learned that a long time ago. My big one was "GO FOR THE EYEs BOO!"
    Eyes, throat, genitals.

I'll kill a man or die before he get's my panties off of me unwillingly.

yeah i would definetly teach some attacks from the guard like triangle chokes or armbars, just to drill some last resort scenarios

not going to take with people who have no martial arts training :dunno:

you want to teach things that are easy to remember in a high stress situation. simple things.

ways to draw attention / get help.

situational awareness scenarios and conflict avoidance tactics.

knees, elbows, hammerfists, eye gouges. anything that hits hard with minimal training and disables an attacker.

yeah I plan on doing something involving the guard position, and using head control + eye gouges and elbows to get up and away for one situational thing

But yeah, the groin, the eyes, and the adam's apple are the best disabling points.

what's key here is to have easy, basic responses that can be drilled into instinct.

lol, the thing is I already run a brazilian jiu jitsu club at my school. If that is what people are looking for, they will show up to that class. This women's self defense thing seems to be for a different type of student, where their goal is to not exactly kick someone's ass but to protect themselves and get away if possible. I assure you everything I teach will be things I learned from brazilian jiu jitsu but a little changed so that someone who has never grappled before can learn it quickly by taking these classes once a week.
