WEST COVINA, Calif. (AP) -- A woman was shot to death in her home while telling a 911 dispatcher someone was trying to break in.

The victim phoned for help about 11:40 a.m. Wednesday. Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Dan Rosenberg says a dispatcher spoke with the woman briefly, heard gunshots over the line, then silence.

Deputies soon arrived at the home on Cameron Avenue, followed by paramedics, who pronounced the woman dead. Police would describe the victim only as a female Asian adult.

Investigators searched the neighborhood repeatedly and South Hills High and Mesa Elementary schools were locked down for about two hours.

No suspects had been taken into custody as of late Wednesday.

Nope, they'll blame the gun for making the innocent criminal kill that woman. She should've just yelled at the guy to just take her stuff and leave her alone! DUH!

Unless she was retired or worked nights there's no reason to be at the house on a wednesday @ 11:40am :p

just like that one dude said in the Stossel bit on gun control: "you can call the police, and they'll come, and they'll photograph your dead body. you're the first line of defense to yourself"

The vast majority of burglaries occur during the day while people are away from their homes.

I was reading a topic about this on another forum. One of the members was questioning why we would need firearms in the home. His suggestion?

    its pretty pathetic, really.

its so easy to be able to defend yourself, and yet half this nation still doesnt even own a gun :ugh::ugh: i'll never understand it.

example: my friends family recently had their house broken into TWICE while their DAUGHTERS were home, and instead of getting some real protection, theyre spending thousands of dollars installing an elaborate alarm system, a fence, etc :ugh: :ugh: :ugh: instead of spending money on something that would actually protect them
