I've wanted a 1911 since I put a few mags down my friends Kimber but I don't have $1000 to drop on one gun...and if I did it wouldn't be a hand gun....I was cursing buds guns site and I found the SA 1911 at around $524 + $20 transfer this is not a bad price. Now is this a gun I should look at or is a POS that I should stay away from. I'll probably end up carrying this unless I can find a cpo 226.

Shooting GI spec 1911's isn't that much fun. They aren't bad guns, but they are still GI spec.

For that kinda change, I would be looking at 1911's unless it was a base... but that's just me.

ever here... champagne taste, beer budget

yeah, doesn't really fly with 1911's. Not to say that just because you spent 1k on a pistol you will be buying quality. It really depends on what you want the gun for. Most guys want a 1911 for sake of claiming they have one in the safe to show off every once in a while. If that's the case, buy a used Kimber Series 2.

But if you are buying one to be shot, and shot often. 1k is cheap. I have almost got 40k in my Dan Wesson alone. It's won a lot of matches, kicked a lot of ass and I can honestly say I have received my monies worth out of it and it has not yet reached it's peak. I have a Shuemann barrel that is waiting to get fitted for it but I am still trying to shoot the barrel out of it. Judging by it's condition, it's still got plenty of life in it.

this would be a carry gun with some light ipsc shooting. nothing major just "oh it's thursday, there's not football on...what the hell I'll hit the range for some ipsc practice"

eh, sure. Find a load and a set of magazines it likes and go to town. At least you will know for your next 1911 what you really want in one. Oh, I forgot to tell you, they are like rabbits. they seem to multiply in the safe. good luck

Jeebus, how do you spend $40k on a 1911? Is it dipped in the combined ball sweat of heine, yost, and brian? :big grin:

lol, I should have spoke more clear. I have close to 40k rounds through the gun, not monies. I'm an idiot sometimes.

A dealer told me that SA's 1911's are built by Taurus, or at least the frames are. No idea if it is true, but seems possible since SA doesn't even make the XD
