It's their basic GI45 model with a lowered ejection port, 3 dot sights (front is staked so harder to change) and beveled magwell.
It's a decent gun but in all honesty go for a Loaded model. I like them but I also like messing around with guns and used one as a base for modifying.

I like Springfield but my next 1911 will be a Taurus to try out.

When I get my other 1911 from my pistol plumber, this is getting sent in for...

    Cylinder & Slide trigger group
    DK Speed Hammer

Been testing some new 125grain loads, and all ran flawlessly. This gun is going to be a hot rod in ESP division of IDPA.

I just ran my Springer 9mm last night doing some draw and reloads drills, and the thing honestly is a hot rod. The accuracy and trigger of a 1911, with the recoil of a .22. It's basically like cheating. I haven't even had my smith work his magic on it yet. This thing is going to be a beast at the Single Stack Challenge at the end of the month.

For your price range, the PT1911 is a good deal.
If I did ever decide to buy a Taurass, that's probably what I'd get.
I don't mind their Raging Bulls... but I'm not in the market for wheel guns right now.

    Otherwise, Taurus sucks.

The PT1911 has unique size sites so most aftermarket site do not fit.

I've got a SA MilSpec .45 I bought about three years ago. It has been %100 reliable since the day I took it out of the box. I paid ~450 for it new.

It has a forged frame and slide and would make a nice base gun if you wish build up a custom. I like the standard GI controls and the parkerized finish has been reasonably durable. The trigger is not great but decent enough for most.

Downside is that it is a $450 1911. The barrel fit seems a bit loose. The plunger tube needs to be restaked/replaced. The ejector is loose and the rear sight fell out of the dovetail. Most of these are fairly easy things to fix and none have affected reliability. I just picked up one of the Heritage retro rear sights (Yost-Bonitz) which I plan on installing soon.

Just remember that you pretty much get what you pay for with a 1911. In my case, it just gives me an excuse to order up some parts and do some tinkering which is cool with me :). If you are looking for better fit and finish out of the box, you may want to look at the higher end of the line. However, if you intend on doing some customization, the MilSpec makes a great base to start from.
