I've been shooting skeet/trap a lot recently with my saiga and it's ridiculously fun. Just looking around at websites, it kinda seems like I am going to have to spend at least $1500 on a gun. I'm far from a professional shooter, and just basically want a nicer gun to go have fun with.

    Thoughts, experience, suggestions?

Get to know a few main people in the club, and then talk to them about how you are looking for a new gun and are wondering if you can try out some of theirs. Trap shooters are a pretty nice crew and for the most part won't mind letting you try their gear out as long as you are respectful and seem intelligent and know what you are doing.

Personally, I've never found another shotgun that fits me better than my current 1100 trap model with a high comb stock, just look and see what fits you and is in your price range. Shotguns have a tendency to have the price tag just spiral upwards out of control, especially when you start talking specifically trap guns.

I love the break on Ruger Red Label O/Us - so clean from the factory.

The Browning Cynergy is a new one that i really like a lot.

I had a guy fit a 1100 to me, and let me play with some various length barrels until I found one I liked.

My dad has a Citori and a Silver Pigeon sitting in the closet, but I still always go with my 1100. I'm just more comfortable with it than I am anything I've played with. If I didn't do the 1100 thing, the Citori is pretty nice IMO, and it seems like a lot of them pop up on the used market.

The only really nice shotgun i've ever fired was a friend of a friend's Beretta 20 gauge, no idea what model it was, but it was pretty slick.

1100s are nice and have little to no recoil with bird loads.

Mine has over 150k rounds through it, love that gun.

I have an XS, but I hardly ever shoot it.
