If asked to cover I should educate and then be prepared to exit the resturant and secure my weapon if asked? I will be traveling with family so not patronizing the restaurant is not an option.

Yes. But you really won't see much of a hassle. If you are in Northern VA, most people are so caught up in their own little worlds. But, carry a digital recorder for your own safety.

The best argument is "would you rather me carry the firearm and it be safe, or put it in the vehicle where it can be stolen and used in a crime". check out www.vcdl.org and get a few of their yellow cards that have the information you can hand out

I'll be in southwest. Will do on the cards. I still need to convince my father that oc isnt the big deal he makes it out to be. (he's old school cc).

I lived in NOVA for 15 years now, before I knew OC was legal (first 14 years) I never noticed a firearm on someone's waist.

After I found out OC was legal and actively looking for them on people's waist, I saw TWO people in just past year that was open carrying. Chances are people won't notice.

I OC’d in the Roanoke/Salem area and on up through Lexington and Natural Bridge last year.

    No one said a word.

With no license required for OC and almost nowhere off limits, I almost felt like a free man.

I have OC'd a few times in Oregon. People definitely give you funny looks, and it seemed disadvantageous to me. Despite being 100% legal I was still concerned that someone would call the cops and of course "man with gun" is gonna get a LEO response... I don't want the hassle.

It's easy enough to get your CHL in Oregon, so thats what I did. Much better choice for those who live in friendly states.

The only time I open-carry anymore is when I'm tagging along with my buddy to work some repos... But no one messes with us because we're wearing nice clothes, belt holsters, badges, sunglasses, etc. He drives a F250 that has a fold-out lift... So it looks like a normal truck until he uses the lift. Someone rear-ended us, and when we stepped out of the truck the guy nearly shit his pants. He thought he hit two detectives, lol.

lulz, yea. Trust me I don't like wearing it but his boss requires it. It's cool enough that he lets me tag along from time to time... It's a liability.

While I agree with OC as a public exposure method, I -really- don't like giving up the advantage of surprise... it could be the deciding factor in an engagement.

It could also deter a crime from even happening.

There are tactical advantages to each. Go with what you are comfortable with.

    In on this crew :wavey:

I OC quite often actually. Been thinking about buying a Blackhawk Serpa for OCing. I'm sure it looks kinda goofy open carrying with IWB holster :mamoru:
