DeKalb County police said someone was shot to death during an apparent robbery attempt Thursday, Dec. 6.

    Reported By: Marc Teichner

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5) -- A would-be robber is dead after witnesses say his intended victim pulled a gun. It happened on Stardust Circle in DeKalb County.

    FOX 5's Justin Gray Reports
Investigators said the Johnson family was returning home from a school event when three people came up to their car. Randall Johnson, 36, pulled out a gun and shot one of the suspects, killing him.

Shirley Warner, neighbor: "When they drove up in their vehicle, they [suspects] tried to take them out the vehicle and take them into their home but it didn't work out that way."

Police say the victim was found dead in a backyard, and the other gunman and a lookout fled on foot and are still on the loose.

Criminals being shot dead is a victimless crime, as far as I'm concerned.

The would-be victim suffers a lot after that I bet...what with legal and social repercussions (depending on location/situation) but I would much rather deal with that then deal with being dead.

The late Jeff Cooper wrote about feeling bad about killing someone who deserved it. It's a great article to help you prepare your mind for the day when you might have to do that. The gist of it is that there is some room for soldiers to feel some bad thoughts after killing enemy soldiers, since both sides are fighting for whatever ideals and whatnot. But when it's thugs trying to hurt you or whatever, there should be NO sadness, depression, or other ill feelings. Those are the result of the pussification of this nation. Those are my paraphrases of his words. Read "To Ride, Shoot Straight, and Speak the Truth." Great book.

Anyways, I work for DeKalb County. Good to know that someone in DeKalb is doing the right thing with firearms, and that someone is dead for doing the wrong thing to that person. By the way, Stardust Circle is NOT in a good area of town.

Talked to one of the guys today who ran that call. He said that the deceased was shot in the back, through-and-through, with a .380.

How will the back shooting play out for the shooter down there? Must of been a pretty skinny guy for .380 to go all the way through.

The robber could've had his weapon pointed at the homeowner with his back turned.
(which is what I would say if I was him)

I believe its been shown through precedent that a person can turn and run as you take a shot faster than you can react and keep from firing.

    Shouldn't be a factor.

A good shoot is a good shoot.

For a minute I thought this was DeKalb County, IL. My sister lives there for school right now. They had a shooting threat for Monday written in the bathroom in a dorm and campus was shut down.

I doubt the victim will face any charges. You're talking about the county where the PD here killed like 20 people last year and caused an FBI investigation for the number of police-involved shootings. Nothing came of it. People get shot several times a day there. It is a very large county, in size and population, and butts up directly against the city of Atlanta.

.380 is not going to usually cause a huge amount of damage, but anything, when put in the proper place, will do enough damage to kill you. As for through and through, there's really not much in an upper torso to stop bullets. You have minimal tissue, small bones with spaces between them, and big, giant, air-filled organs. Even .380 rounds can punch through that.
