Does anyone have a link to the wiring diagram to the iPod dock connection? What I'm looking to do is use the dock cable, cut one end off, and then wire directly into a 12volt source in my car, and then attach RCA connectors to the line-out leads. I'd like to know if the iPod accepts a direct 12 volts or if the belkin adapter/AC adapter convert it to something different. Thanks.

it's proprietary, so you'd have to pay a large licensing fee from apple for that kind of info...otherwise, it's one of those DMCA violation kind of things and the furnisher of said information would be at legal risk

Uhhh... I could easily figure out which pins are power, and which are line-output, I just didn't feel like ripping apart my dock cable. Do you work for Apple or something? I don't think they would have a problem with somebody knowing those pins. I really just want to know the voltage it accepts, I guess I'll just take a multimeter to it, no big deal.

i used to, but yea, while i agree it's probably not rocket science to figure out, this is why they have that ipod approved whatever badge program they do. it's their way to capitalize on ipod accessories...to use the dock connector, you get the apple blessing or hear from apple legal. basically, i doubt you'll find any info on it out there

I hope you know how to design some sort of voltage regulation / limiting circuitry, for your iPod's sake. many homebrew designs for stuff like this have fried iPods in the past.

I HAVE the cable already, it's made by Belkin. Read my post and you will see that I would like to directly wire it into a 12 volt source in my car, completely bypassing the belkin unit. But, it seems I can't do that because it accepts 5 volts.

This sounds pretty home-brew to me. If he's not gonna market it, it's covered under fair use.
