wireless security

    i am using a d link wireless usb adapter to connect to my apartment's free wireless internet connectin (Airwave company).

    does anyone have any suggestions on how i can make my computer secure?

    Install a firewall to protect yourself.

    If your apartment's connection does not require any sort of encryption to connect to it, then you should realize that anything you send or receive via that connection could potentially be seen/read by anyone who has the means and who may so choose to use those means.

    thanks ppls. i am paranoid. i will not be using wireless until i know a lot more about it.

    Even if you go with a wired connection you need to take precautions if it is a shared connection. Check with the apartment managers. If all they do is split a cable modem between 4 apartments, I'd be a little cautious. :sad2:

    In that case, I'd get my own router to separate my computer(s) from their network.
