I just ordered a laptop and want to set up a wireless network with my desktop and laptop on a shitty dsl connection (500/300).

I've reading some reviews on newegg and it seems like all the brands are problematic. Anyone have any recommendations as to which brands I should go for/avoid and any specific router models recommended?

    TIA

I had no problems with my Linksys WRT54GS.

This is the one I recommend to everyone. It's the one I use myself. Least problems of all the brands I've used. I would get the WRT54G (no S) and save some money though.

The speed booster would only be usefull if you're transfering large files a lot over your local area network (like to a server or something).

Yep, I had both a WRT54G and a GS, never really noticed a difference. Got the GS for free though, so of course I picked it up, "Speed Booster" = insta cool points and bragging rights. :mamoru:

Linksys is junk! Seriously has some issues, they are the only routers I've ever had a problem with. I would actualy look at other brands like SMC, 3 Com, or the Belkin Pre-N.

No complaints with Linksys here either... I am currently using 2 of them in my home network.
