Are you all in the same workgroup? Do you all the the same protocol bound to file/printer sharing and client for MS networks? Are they running and OS like WinXP that requires you to login with a specific name and password?

    1) If you are using XP, file sharing is disabled by default. SP2's firewall makes it even more fun.

    2) They may not appear in network connections (outside of a domain, they rely on broadcasts to find each other, and they are about as good at it as a bunch of blind slugs). Personal Firewalls will also cause them to not show up. Try \\000.000.000.000 where 000.000.000.000 would be replaced with IP of the machine you are trying to access.
