Here's the deal - i have a server in my room - with about 400 gigs of storage, 200 used up for media (videos, images, and mainly mp3s)

I know its a relatively new market - but whats a good media reciever that has a good interface?

I have a home theater system, but i'm on a tight budget so i'm not trying to spend more than $300 for a new or used one.

    Anyone try these out?

roku is good - but i don't need the HD reciever and the other ones are only audio

since technology is so cheap for DIY - does anyone know if there is a good free OS out there to buy the parts and build your own media reciever.

i mean really - all you need is like a lil over 1 ghz proc, $30 mobo, special nice looking case - $100, decent soundcard - $50, small harddrive for the os and buffering - $10, and a wireless card - $30, remote - $40

a bit expensive but still can be done provided there is a nice enough non windows preferably media os out there. (windows is too big of a resource hog)
