are any of these sytems any good? how is the sound quality compared to a normal home theatre in a box system?

also.. should i even bother with these "in a box" systems or should i build my own? if so where can i read up on how to start and advice/tips, etc...?

If you can build your own, I would reccomend doing that. It will give you more flexibility.

    start with www.avsforum.com

For speakers, best speaker deals come from internet companies - search for Onix Rockets, Athena, Axiom. For your more conventional speaker companies, go to any high end store and listen to some you like.

For receivers and components - can't go wrong with Pioneer, Sony, Yamaha, Denon, Onkyo and Panny.

Subs - HSU and SVS subs are the only 2 brands you should be concerned about (for the money).

    www.speakerbuilder.net

    www.diyaudio.com

But to be honest if you've never done any kind of speaker/cabinet building before I would start with a sub and then work up to mains/center/rears.

AVS while it is a great site, doesn't really have much for DIY speakers, however what little information they have would be here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=28 and there is a sticky in the forum with some great links to other DIY speaker sites.

Save the insults for the main forum...

The thread starter asked about wireless systems as well as desgning his own setup.

If you can read what I quoted, which you obviously can, since you can read my posts to insult me, maybe its your comprehension that isn't up to par? Try going through this, once you are done come back and read again, you will see that the first person to give advice, also stated that sony makes a good reciever, having owned 2 sony recievers myself, I was merely stating that sony is not a all its cracked up to be.
