i'm not spending $200-300 on f'n pocket wizards. i just want to dick around with two off-camera flashes (just bought a 580EX today with the B&H coupon)

    www.gadgetinfinity.com ??

    something / somewhere else?

i have a 420EX and now a 580EX II, so it'd have to work with both of 'em.

    :dunno:

Why not just buy another 420EX and use the built in IR?

I have very limited flash experience, but you could try getting a Canon off-camera cord and then still use the 580 as a master to the slave 420. I think that will work.

they're supposedly ok, not 100% fire rate, but fine for hobby use. I was going to go with the elinchrom skyports, but I think I might wait for those new ones coming next year that support ettl.

the built in IR is meh, limited range, line of sight only, awful outdoors.

V2's work pretty good. I have a few sets and like 'em. I would never shoot something that is fast paced or crucial where if I miss something I can't get it again. But for normal portraits and things that are staged where you can afford a few mis-fires here or there they are great. I have been using them for a few months now almost daily and have yet to really be let down.

I bought the V2's and with all the times I have used them, I have had only one or two misfires, and it was when the batteries in my flash were running low. As long as the batteries in both the flash and the trigger are working fine, the triggers work great.

i was thinking about using them (among other things) on either side of a lightbox. so, i wouldn't think that IR would work then. :dunno:

Just go with the V2's. I got them from Gadget Infinity with a very quick turn around time, but they are a few dollars less from Mpex. Not sure how much Mpex charges for shipping though :o

I hope this company actually comes through. It's seems really shady so far. No pics, everything is vague and they are promising the world. I guess we will see in Jan. :x:

Not long at all. They ship on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays, so depending what time you put your order in, they might have shipped yesterday. I ordered on a Thursday, they shipped on a Friday and I believe I got them the following Tuesday or Thursday. It was really fast.

should've called MPEX and saw if they had them in stock before ordering directly form GI. You would have gotten them quicker.:hs:

I dunno about that. I always get my stuff from GI in less than a week. Their shipping is badass.

:werd: From the Flickr group, I've noticed people have more issues with the length of time Mpex takes than GI.
