I thought I remembered something about being able to use a WinXP install CD as an NT bootdisk.

Is this correct and if so, how do I do this?

Reason I ask is that my desktop recently quit booting and won't even go into safemode w/command prompt. I can get the recovery console, but you can't run system restore from RC.

If you run Windows setup, there is an option to repair Windows. It's not on the first screen though. Follow the prompts as if you were going to install a new copy of Windows and you'll see it there.
