User files such as Outlook PST files and the contents of My Documents should not be harmed. Its still a good idea to plug the drive into a working machine and make yourself a copy of the important stuff just in case.

it will not. the best way to repair windows w/o losing settings is to skip the first repair prompt, tell it to install, let it find windows THEN repair it

if you do a full install new profiles will not take on the old profiles, you'll have to dig around in the documents and settings folder (which is the folder your emails are most likely in)

the best thing is to just not worry about repair. It hardly ever works, and when it does, the machine never runs like it should.
