Windows XP: Programs menu not popping up. Virus?

Discussion in 'OT Technology' started by BlingblingWJBoy, Nov 13, 2004.

  1. Is there a virus out there that does this? I tried to install mcafee on the computer but it wouldn't let me. Said, "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed."

I'm going to try avoiding formatting if possible, my friend doesn't want to lose some of his programs (he doesn't have the original discs)

Try Clearing your start up items from safe mode, sounds like there is something conflicting with the installer file.

Start>Run>MSCONFIG>Startup Tap>Disable All>Check antivirus if you want and any other programs that you really want to run inthe Background.

System rollback might repair the installer file if you can remeber when the last time if worked for a fact.

    Keep us updadted.
