They're not or atleast they don't have any intention of selling it tothe public right now. Another way that they try to fuckya, you gotta get a new computer.

I have MCE install disk... Put it on a computer... The only thing i noticed is, it has an XP Pro install screen,....

Once its installed its all MCE, but the only thing it had was a MCE control panel where you have everything in one....

WELLL i have an ATI all in wonder card and like it seperate than running it through MCE... so i formatted and loaded my other XP back up...

They want the XP MCE experience to be perfect, people integrating it have very strict requirements on the required hardware such as brand of tv tuner/video, dvd, etc.

Same here. I had it on my home built media pc for about 3 hours. Nothing really different unless you can write all the frilly apps that integrate with MCE like they would have on a VAIO or HP Media PC. Not worth it. Just use regular old XP...

You can buy it online or at places like Fry's as long as you purchase it with some hardware.

Yea, places like newegg even have special hardware (I think newegg sells it with a molex power Y cable) to sell OEM Microsoft products with.

As a bit of trivia, the MCE CD is also the Tablet PC Edition CD. The product code used at install determines what it will install as.

If he wants MCE features (like PVR, tuner support, etc) he might as well get MCE. Vista may ship in 2006, but it will probably be another 6 months to a year before Vista MCE is released.
