So I built a custom computer, and used the windows xp boot disk to install windows. after reading the 6 floppies, it prompts for the xp cd. even though i have it in there, it doesn't recognize it. the cdrom works fine (i tried using the motherboard cd with it and it works), but for some reason it won't read the xp cd. the xp cd works on my laptop. anyone have any idea what might be wrong?

Try booting directly from the CD, you shouldn't need the disks. You may need to set BIOS boot priority to check the cdrom first.

You may have a master/slave issue. Be sure that you have only 1 master and 1 slave on each IDE channel otherwise it won't see either drive.
