I just downloaded and installed Windows Vista Ultimate from the MSDN subscription site. So far, I have mixed feelings about different things within the OS. My main question is, I'm running into different software compatibility issues. The two primary pieces of software that I'm having trouble with are Adobe Acrobat Professional and CyberLink PowerDVD. Has anyone running Vista been able to get these programs installed and running successfully?

I haven't tried Vista yet, but I wonder if they put the compatibility feature in there again.

In XP, you just right clicked the program, selected properties and then the compatibility tab. Then if you were running an old win98 program or something like that, XP could make the prog work.

I installed it last week. I formatted and put XP back on this past weekend. Besides the fact that my P4 2.0/1 gig RAM spare box isn't really good enough to run it, more than half of my programs and some hardware don't work.

In a way, I actually kind of like the new interface, and would have given it more of a chance if I had a faster machine to put it on.

Yes, there is a compatibility mode somewhere.

Compatibility mode is on the properties tab. WinXP SP2 is now an option. I've found UAC (you're an admin but not really an admin) stuff to be more of an issue.

XP SP2 is listed as one of the compatibility "Modes".

It's not worth the money they charge. You can get XP Pro for $100 nowadays, and it does everything Vista does, minus the infintely-adjustable GUI scale.

I haven't had to many problems with drivers so far. Even my Optimus Mini works.

I'm getting a free upgrade to Vista Business from XP Pro courtesy of Dell for my Inspiron E1505 come the end of January. Should I upgrade? :noes:

As long as you keep the original XP install DVD in case you need to go back, then go for it. You don't like it you can always go back. Plus you will have the license going forward in case you change your mind later on.

If you don't want Vista next month, but decide a year from now that the time is right, you won't have to go out and buy the upgrade since you already have it.
