I have a strange problem with windows server 2003 file permissions. If I deny a certain group the ability to delete subfolders or files, the user is also unable to save any changes in that file.

    All other permissions are allowed.

Any ideas what's going on here?

I assume you're taking away the "Write" permissions for a certain group? If so that will deny ANY kind of write, not just a deletion.

You'll have to go into the "Advanced" security properties to find a more specific way to deny deletion, but allow other attributes to be written within the file.

I actually did go to advanced security and denied deleting of subfolders and files and allowed everything else, including writing. What do you think is happening?
