That process is running on one of the computers here and it's taking up 100% cpu resource. I did a google and microsoft knowledge base search and nothing has come up. Does anyone know if this is a type of virus?

IIRC it's an NTFS file indexing program for quick searching. I don't rember if it's part of Office or new to SP2 however, although I think it's SP2.

Go into services and disable it and see if anything is affected.
