    i don't feel like reading the whole thing, so i figured maybe someone knew this off the top of their head.

    is it legal to install a retail version of windows xp pro on both my desktop and my laptop? i think i remember someone saying this was legal, but i'm not sure.

    Retail office you can install one copy on your desktop and on your laptop as long as you are the only user. Wierd exception to most of MS software eula's.

    Mine let me install it on my laptop and desktop. If it doesnt, you just call microsoft and tell them you formatted your computer and now the activation code says it wont work- they give you a new one.

    install on as many PC as you want, however you can only have ONE of them powered up at a time

    at least that's what i get out of it :dunno:

    i have my copy installed on at least a dozen pc, 3 or more are on all the time

    It'll let you install it a few times before asking you to call and re-activate, but that doesn't mean it's legal under the EULA.
