So i have a computer that came with Windows Media Center on it and i have an activation key for it. The hard drive that came with it died and was replaced. I am now running regular XP home and my activation key doesnt work. What can i do to fix this? Do i need to buy a new copy of windows? Will upgrading to media center then putting in my activation key work?

Thanks in advance. If you need more info please let me know.

How did you get Home installed without a key? The keys for Home, Pro, and MCE are all different. If your code is for MCE, you need to install MCE.

Did you not create a recovery CD or it didn't come with one?
