I recently inherited a laptop with 98 SE. I formatted and reinstalled Windows along with all critical updates. Well it does this really stupid thing where I'll start to download something (with IE6) then the download hangs at a random % of completion.

If I hit cancel and restart the download sometimes it picks up where it left off and will finish up with 2-3 cycles of cancel/redownload.

This is really stupid and I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of this?

Can't seem to find anyone else that has the same problem.

    Thanks.

My XP machine connected to the same network (cable connection) eats these downloads up.

Reason #56395749394743 why Win98 sucks ass. Anyway, I've never seen that particular problem before. Have you searched Google? It might be easier to forget IE and run another browser instead of banging your head against the wall trying to solve it.

Yeah, I gave google a check...a lot of checks actually - if it happens again I'll use a different browser.

    Thanks.
