I need some help with Win '98. The problem is when the machine is booting up it gives an error saying some (Norton Files) are referenced in the registry or the system.ini but they cannot be found.

The files are located in C:\progra~1\symantec\symevnt.386
    C:\progra~1\norton1\navap.vxd

Norton has been uninstalled I have tried looking in the system.ini & using regedit.

Any ideas of what else can be done to get these errors cleaned out so I can get it to boot straqight into windows. Also, the computer no longer has Norton Utilities & AV on it -- switched to mcafee.

    Thanks for the help.

You're not looking hard enough. They're referenced in the registry. Get rid of McAfee too. Its worse than Norton.

An easy way is to reinstall Norton and uninstall if you're really stuck. Fixed it for me.

I'm working on this for a friend. I've tried searching the registry and got a lot of the norton / symantec files out. I'll look some more though.
