    i cant decide man....

i actually like the look of XP Pro in Silver mode, at 1152x864, no desktop icons, and the trillian skin to fit right with the Silver mode.... it's a decently stable setup, and quicker at things like Wav encoding...

but on the other hand, Windows 2000 SP4, is completely rock stable, clean and uniform looking, and feels quicker...but it just looks so bland, and monotone....

i dunno, i like both, i wish 2000 was as pretty as XP, or XP was as clean and refined as a good Win2k install.....

just to throw in...the system that it will be installed on:

    Epox 4PEA+
    Intel Pentium 4 2.4b @ 3.0Ghz/664mhz FSB
    512Mb PC2700 DDR
    Geforce 3 64mb DDR @ 235/535

Back in the day when I had a 200mmx with NT4, I was up for over 365 days without a reboot. Machine was an FTP server running through a dial-up connection. I had a static IP address from my ISP. Was really cool to log onto your own machine from any machine on the net, but 28.8 was soooooooooooooooooooo slow.

hell yeah, i remember the 28.8 days... i didnt even bother setting up an FTP then.... i used to have one on that server you see in the screeny up there, but now my :greddy: ISP firewalls all incoming connections, so if i set up an FTP no one outside of my ISP's network can reach it....sucks....

i even have a fucking static IP now, and have no use for it...

I actually wrote a socks5 add-on for putty a year ago or so, but I lost the damn code. I haven't gotten around to writing it again--the source code has support in there for proxies, but the latest version I have doesn't show anything in the gui... (need the socks support for work, so I can telnet to home... )
