Im using a friends laptop that is a P3 800Mhz 512 mb ram. Im curious if win 2000 would run faster than a striped down version of xp? Im only using it for taking notes in class and browsing the web but I have to reformat it first just curious which direction to go in.

probably if you stripped down version of XP, but i'd go for whatever your preference is. The speed difference isnt really that much. At least not that i can notice.

Just use XP and turn off all the visual effects if you want.

A fully patched W2K box is now sluggish as shit. It used to be really quick but the difference between a fresh install and one that it is fully patched (with no programs installed) is astounding.

yeah. the amount of shit that is loaded in a full patched 2k computer is retarded.

i'd say they are about the same speed once fully patched. then once you start tossing more and more apps on, it's gonna run right down.
