I've heard that some metallic window tints can affect the GPS signal in some cars. I'm deciding on the type of tint and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this happening to them or a friend?

Avoid Metallic tint. Problem solved? :dunno:

...and, yes, the tint shop where I got mine done said that it will not only jack with GPS reception, but also cell phone reception and radar detector sensitivity if you have a Valentine 1 or one of the other detectors that has a receiver facing the rear of the car as well.

I went with Suntek Carbon on mine.

    What color is your car?

Regular Llumar or 3M is the way to go. Personally, I prefer 20%.

It's BS. I ran Quantum fully metallic tint on my '05 Acura TL with nav for 2 years and never experienced an issue. I used Nav all the damn time too. Note in most owners manuals it says it "may" cause interference. Never, did it say that it will. It's a scapegoat.

if it's the factory nav unit the antenna is ouside the car anyways, on the portable nav units the antenna is right on your dash w/ everything else - it's all internal.

Maybe if you wire up an external antenna instead you'd be fine?

    mirror tint is tacky anyways.

Nobody mentioned mirror tint. I agree that shit is hideous. However, Quantum is far from mirror at 35% and is fully metallic. On the '05 TL I had the factory nav antenna is under the rear deck not outside.
