I work at an equipment rental company and got to looking at our masonary selection. Specifically, I was looking at our .22 blanks for firing nails into masonary. I spotted something that was kind of odd IMO. The package was labeled 'Remington', but the blanks had 'Super X' stamped on them, which, IIRC, is a Winchester logo.

Any idea why? Companys sharing casings?

Are you saying the tool is a remington and with it the box/case there is winchester ammo? Or are you saying you went to walmart and bought a box of remington 22 blanks and in the box was winchester?

If its the latter, the tools are themselves are manufactured by Remington, however if you rent then it is likely that your company has had to buy more of the "ammo" for the tools. Someone at your company (or someone who rented the tool) may have realized that the gun simply uses 22 blanks and rather than paying the price for the "special" 22s at homedepot or lowes simply bought blanks somewhere else and bought whatever was cheapest.

Also if you didn't just buy the box its possible that someone has simply combined boxes of "ammo" I've got a remington box that has older WWII mint german 9mm ammo in it.

Every brick of 22 I have ever bought had the correct company's mark on it. From Federal "F" Remington "R" or Winchester "X"

It sounds to me like it was just a human price saving or space saving event that happened later down the road and winchesters were not package and sold as remingtons.

What I'm saying is, Winchester blanks, Remington packaging.

    I just found it odd.

Nope, Winchester is owned by olin, a publicly traded company, their financial data is available. Not surprisingly, ammunition is a profitable business, in 2006 they had a net income of 150 million. They did recently decide to sell off their metal manufacturing part of the business, but that isn't winchester. Other than that the company is solid, they even recently got a new line of credit with citi.

He's referring to the Winchester Repeating Arms Company, which went bankrupt in 2006. Olin has been licensing the name "Winchester" to the various people who have owned the firearms manufacturing line for years, I'm pretty sure FN Herstal owns the rights to it now, and they're supposed to start selling guns again soon.

I thought they were one and the same to be honest.
Nice to know FN bought them up though, I was worried for a while

No shame, I did too for the longest time, as I'm sure most people still do.
