I have 2 Windows 2000 Servers...one is my DNS and Domain Controller. I want to add an email server to the domain but it won't let me....I get an error message saying cannot find domain or does not exist...

    any solutions?

    Is Active Directory enabled?

    Exchange 2000 requires AD..

I'm assuming you are installing Ex. 2000.

Active Directory is enabled. The problem is when I try to install Exhcange 2000, it cannot find the Domain Controller. I get an Error message that cannot find domain, or domain does not exist.

Can that machine see the domain elsewise? Can you ping?

    Double check DNS as well.

machine can see each other...just when it tries to join the domain...it won't let it. I can ping the machines...I can ping the machines from the outside.

So is the exchange server machine part of AD (ie is it a domain controller?) or just a stand alone server?

well I added it into the active directory...haven't made it a domain controller. Should upgrade the server to a domain controller...if so why do I need to...it should be able to join the domain either way.
