I get sick probably once every month or two months, and I only occassionally go to the military sick call any more since its a pain in the ass to even get in appointment with my schedule so I just go to a clinic off post to get checked out and receive medicine, antibiotics, etc. Apparently my tonsils are permaswollen which causes me to get sick pretty often and makes my voice pretty nasally, anyone whos spoken to me on here can pretty much attest that I sound like a male fran dresner.

Anyways, the doctor there told me my problems would pretty much go away if I had my tonsils taken out since they're causing all the infections and shit since they're so huge.

Anyone here had their tonsils taken out by a military doctor? I'd like to know if this is an operation you can just ask for and they'll do or if I'm going to get hung up in the system for a fucking year.

Cliffs: I have huge tonsils, zero faith in the military health care system, and I want them taken out.

They might, but you will be in for some fucking godawful pain.

The older you are when you get them out, the worse it will hurt and the longer it will take for you to recover. I had mine out when I was 13. I still remember how fucked up I was afterward. :noes:

Military facilities are "full service", i'm sure they can can find an corpsman just out of school to remove those for you.:naughty:

On a more serious note, just hit up your HM and ask them what the procedure is have how easy it is to get authorized. I know guys how have had sinus surgery, their appendix out, etc. and it was no problem.

i don't give a shit how much it hurts, I want these things taken out ASAP.

Once the doctor told me that the reason I was probably getting sick so damn much was because I have huge tonsils it made a lot of sense. I'm always getting sore throats, throat infections, etc.

Its taken me well over a year to get nowhere regarding my hip problem. I'm finally going to general surgery for that next month for a consult. With all the OEF and OIF soldiers in this area its damn near impossible to get an appointment without waiting over a month, in some cases 2-3 months.

You pussy (Jason H). I had them taken out in bootcamp at 19. we only got like 2 days of light duty, and back to the meat grinder. of course we could only drink slim fast for a few days. Its no biggie. Local anesthesia , some boot corpsman, and you'll be on your way in no time.

The military should take them out, no problem. I was misdiagnosed for 3 weeks by the general practitioner quacks at the clinic. They kept telling me it's just a sore throat or Strep Throat. The IDC (independent duty corpsman - for you non-Navy types), took a look at my throat and instantly made me an appointment with an ENT (ears nose throat) specialist. A few days later I was at the hospital. The procedure took all but an hour but the recovery time for me, (35 year old), was about 4 weeks. The pain was manageable with liquid Oxycodone. I was on SIQ for 2 weeks then sent home for another week to recover.

The younger you are, the quicker your body will recover. I'm a pussy and have a low tolerance for pain. Plus I needed the time off anyway. :x:

I have yet to deal with the military health care system because I am a cadet, but I can relate because I just had my tonsils taken out last May. I am 20 and I can honestly say that all the hype over tonsillectomies was for nothing. As soon as I woke up from the surgery I was talking, albeit it was softly, and was drinking juice. They gave me codeine to take home, and about 2 days later after only eating pudding and jello, I was eating pasta and other semi solids. Whatever pain there was, was much more manageable than the sore throats I had kept getting. The surgery is worth it. Good luck man.

did you have to go through multiple doctors?

because I just want to ask them, and make an appointment for removal. No bullshit.
