like what is the best combination of quality, but inexpensive parts.

I see a lot of you getting it done for around 800 but then i cant peice anything together from bushmaster for less than a grand.

what are the good brands that are making parts etc?

    options:

    3. buy a complete upper/ complete lower and combine

    4. buy each individual part, and combine

I got a kit for about 500, added a stripped lower for 150, then put it all together myself,

and ar15.com is a great source

Are they as easy to build as everyone says they are?

:bigthumb: I'm planning to buy a complete star lower this week and pick out and assemble the upper, stock, and the rest myself.

I thought it'd be cheaper to "build it myself" too... but that only seems to be the case with the lower. The uppers seem to get expensive real fast... and that is without considering the added expense of tools like the action block and armorers wrench.

I've really been considering buying a stripped lower and complete upper, but for the extra money I'd almost rather have the experienece/knowledge gained from building it myself.

:werd: the block and stuff is nice to have but you can manage with out it. But unless your ok with using some used parts you generally don't save a whole lot buying the upper in pieces but it is a good experience to learn how your rifle operates.

:werd: I'm selling off most of my AR stuff just keeping an m4gery but once I got some of my other projects finished I'll ditch the m4gery upper for a piston upper. I have to admit though I've had problems with my AR's before but none were related to the gas system, I just think the piston setup is MUCH more durable.

I have no problems doing COM shots on man sized silhouette with my SAR2 out to about 400 yards, out past that yeah I do better with my AR but if I'm shooting anything other then paper out that far I would choose a different caliber over 5.56 and 5.45.

I'd also like to build it myself, but I'd like to build the entire gun and not just the lower with a completed upper. Does anyone happen to have a good resource (like a specific link) to somewhere that has exactly what needs to be bought in order to put this together?
