there are plenty of people here that wanted to see GM fail, are you still happy with the way it will turn out?

it will cost the US tax payers about 40billion to take over GM, that money will only get it though obama's bankruptcy process

I don't want to see any company fail inherently, but when you are a business, and you have decades of poor decision-making and a lackluster product, the market tends to force you into your self-created doom.

I do think that mucking around and trying to prop up those companies with taxpayer dollars is wrong.

In other words, I don't WANT GM to fail, but I also don't want to pay to offset their own poor decisions, and that means they SHOULD fail.

I was excited to hopefully bring down the power of the UAW, it seems like that will avoid all negative consequences with this plan, so I'm not nearly as excited.

It's a necessary evil, GM is a terribly run company and this was the only way that change can occur.

Basically, chalk up another for the UAW. It's been a pension company that makes cars for decades.

I am very happy to see our tax dollars going towards forcing public companies to sell themselves to unions.

    No, for many reasons.

    1. Roughly 5 years too late.
    2. This is after we gave them billions in bailouts.
    3. UAW owns like 60% of the company now and still has their ridiculous healthcare/pension in place.
    4. Bankruptcy is never good.
    5. Govt help along the way = no motivation to actually return to profitability.

Um, the unions are getting parts of GM and Chrysler.

It would have happened with or without govt intervention. The UAW would have tried to block a GM bankruptcy, and if it went to court they might have won and gotten exactly what they have now.

Perhaps, but at least the taxpayer wouldn't have been supporting the fucking thing. It's a tad more complicated than that, but you know what I mean.

The US Government could have bought Honda and just gave it to GM for less.

Hey GM, here you go, try not and fuck this one up...

Except they would have fucked it up, and then we'd not only lose GM but a profitable and successful car company as well.
