Will Linux play nicely with SATA drives?

Specifically Gentoo. I think it will, but I can't really explain why :hs:

I have a Silicon Image 31112 SATA controller, I don't want RAID, just one drive to mess with. Can anyone here offer experience or recommend a forum/page to read so I can learn what might be in store for me?

I think the newer kernels probably have SATA support builtin :dunno:

I am too hasty to post stuff, the Gentoo forums are awesome... if I get the right release candidate it should work :x:

    This is great
