Why would I buy an airport card?

    I can buy a linksys usb/pcmcia card wireless G for ~30 bucks whereas an airport card is more than twice that.

    Only real advantage of the airport card would be that it is internal versus external like the Linksys would be in your case.

    so i can use an external wireless card on my g4? i was under the impression that i had to get the airport card

    as long as it fits in the PCMCIA slot, you'll be ok. You also use the antenna that comes with the card, which will stick out of the side of the machine. The airport card, which is installed internally, will use the built in antenna around the monitor.

    Apples are designed to work best with their own hardware. I've see a few LinkSys systems set up with Macs. Always trouble. Always. Aiports arn't perfect, but they are easy to set up and run. Check the 'sale' area at the apple store website for referbs. Smalldog.com and dealmac.com are also good resources.

    yeah ill try and grab an airport card but I was looking inside my powermac and looking at pictures of reg pcmcia cards and it looks like i might be able to stick a reg wireless card for laptops into my powermac... is this right? reason i ask is because i think my dad has an extra one laying around somewhere

    That will not work you could damage you tower. buy an apple airport card or a external usb wireless adapter

    anybody wanna sell me an airport card for 30 bucks? maybe a 512 stick too?
