Why would I be getting a lot of static when on Skype?

Firstly I don't usually post anywhere but OT so if this is the wrong forum for tech help I apologize. Anyway I recently started using Skype and about half the people I've talked to have said they hear static from me and that I fade in and out. One person described it as sounding like unwrapping cellophane. I do use a headset (Microsoft LifeChat LX-2000) but they said they hear the static with or without it (without it meaning when I use the microphone built into my netbook). No, I do not have another computer at the present time. I'm on an Acer Aspire One which is about three weeks old now. This probably a dumb question but I am not good with computer :hsd: Thanks for any help.

I was gonna suggest you were getting interference from a cable or something, but then read it was a netbook, inwhich case I would imagine this may be less of an issue.
