It's all about the features. Paint, Solitaire, WMP, a web browser, outlook express...all built in out of the box features on a Windows server. You're never going to get those kind of features from a LAMP server :hsugh:

What if you're not at your desktop? what then? What if you're at the data center and feel like paintin, or playin some solitaire? Think I'm gonna let you in my rack to paint on my windows machine? Don't think so :squint:

I've used debian just bc I learned on an Ubuntu development environment and it was familiar. I hear a lot of people say centos, but I don't know, most of my experience, "real world" experience at least, is with the Windows environment. I'm not the best person to ask.

yum is the greatest thing ever. Add the jason litka repo...

yum -y install "*http*" "*php*" "*mysql*" "*perl*"; chkconfig httpd on; chkconfig vsftpd on; chkconfig mysqld on; service httpd start; service vsftpd start; service mysqld start

    bam.. lamp server ready!

It takes 16 minutes to install and roll out a centos5 LAMP setup. I <3 vmware.
