A&P Why was the 50D regarded as a failure?

Most people weren't pleased with the 12,800 ISO but that's almost unnecessary... and regarding the image quality, there were some complaints -- but all the time I had played with it, I never found any problems with it. I'm seriously thinking this as my next camera, I like the 15mp and 6.5 fps... ISO 3200 or even 6400 is nice to have :dunno:

the ISO 1600 isn't even close to good enough.

it was completely a marketing release. "Hey, nikon has nothing in the 15mp range, lets plug that gap and be the only option!"

    It's pretty cheap now.

Right around the same price as a t2i with a lens

  4. Or is it better to go with a 40D?

Didn't the 7D come out not longer after the 50D was released?

if you dont have money get a rebel
if you want a nice camera get a 7d
if you want a really nice camera get a 5d
    if you're jcolman get a 1d

40d and 50d are useless as long as the rebel and the 7d exist

    :hsugh:

Rebel always will be an entry level camera. Used 40D/50D over any Rebel any day...unless you NEED HD video (T1i/T2i)

40D can still be a good cheap camera just to have one as a backup or to do remote shots or what not. Or if you've spent all your money on other stuff like myself, your two workhorses heh.

i'd pick a t2i over a used 50d any day.. unless i hated having HD video, and i wanted more noise at high iso.

i'd pick a 7d over a 50d any day.. i'd just wait and save for another month.

Not big enough (if any) improvement from the 40D.

    lol.. huh?

7d > 5d, unless you want full frame.

the 40d/50d are still the way to go if you have less than 1k to spend. unless if you NEED video then you would have to go with a rebel

The 40d/50d are vastly superior to any rebel. Video is the only thing the Ti has going for it. Otherwise its a plastic toy.

I shoot weddings using a 40d as primary. When I can I'll upgrade to a 7D or whatever is the next thing. Sometimes I wish I had full frame, but a 40d has been getting the job done for 2 years now so I'm seriously considering not going to full frame. I shoot with a 16-35mk2 lens so it gets the width I need. Just wish I had the same DOF as FF.

Besides at this point the 5D is getting dated, 5D2 is barely an improvement, and 1D4 is just to expensive. So that pretty much leaves a 7D as a good step in high ISO capability, but maybe that will change.

I love my 40d so all you saying its garbage GFYS.

The 50d is junk. They are on kijiji selling for the same price as 40D's.

Hey, lets cram 15mp into the same sensor as the 40D, even though we pushed the 40D's capabilities to 10.1 mp.

jesus you're more retarded than the first guy i quoted.

the 5d2 is WORLDS above the 5dc/50d/etc. you obviously have never used it.

have fun shooting your weddings or concerts with a 40d :rofl:

Meaning was more towards "upgrade from 5D to the mark 2 is kinda disappointing." I mean less than 6 months later they released the 7D.
They could have gave the 5D2 its high ISO numbers and some more and more accurate focus points "You know they knew the 7D was in the works." Then I'd be selling my 40D and my right arm to get one.

I didn't say I wouldn't get one. I actually will likely have to get one if I want FF sinces its the only economical option at this point. Hopefully Canon makes a real attempt at an upgrade with a Mk 3.

I'm shooting concert with a 40D. I'm doing alright. I would switch to Nikon in a heartbeat if I had the money though :hs:
