    saw a black dude do it yesterday with 315.. bar flew down (didnt come out of his hands), but he was NOT getting it back up.. luckily he had a big spotter.

    its called a suicide grip, btw

    but you cant hold the bar with a normal grip, so you have to lay your hands back (crank dat wrist) and let it just...'sit' on your palms..

    buddy from college used suicide grip and 315 slipped an broke 4 of his teeth

    it basically cut the teeth right in half

    You guys crack me up.

    I benched for years with a thumbless grip. I never had a problem. Some people have forearm issues that can be worked around by going thumbless.

    I now use a regular grip, and recommend that people use a thumbed grip, but it's not a death sentence to go thumbless. I have a guy in my training group who goes thumbless and he's never dumped a bar...

    CN: Not ideal but not worth getting panties in a knot.

    Yea but you're a bodybuilder, you just do light weight for reps. We're talking heavy weight here son, stay in the kiddie pool.

    I so will :bowdown:, but it'll be in the context of him laughing at me when I lift, so I'll use that line to save face.

    I've always benched with my thumbs on the same side of the bar as the rest of my fingers. Keeps you from squeezing the bar and tiring out your forearms. Never had any issues even with big weight.

    :rofl: i wont be benching 315 either guys so no worries. I do mostly incline work now and on a smith...I usually dont get above 275 and lately its been 225 :( ...shoulders real sore. I did get one good set in of 295 for 9 and then it popped again so i got that going for me. Im gonna try to get in there on a chest/shoulder night i think..we can do a db routine or something.

    can you do weekend?
    I work like 30 mins away from where it would take 1 hour to get to barb's gym, and I get to that spot @ 6:30, so i wouldnt be able to get there till like 7:30 + the walk to barb's gym from the train station on a week night

    i could run there for warmup so prolly be @ barb's by 7:45?
