The screen just randomly turns purple and reverts back when I hit it a few times. But it's getting worse these days.

    It's a Mitsubishi 21 inch so I love it.

What will it take to fix it? Major bucks?

    Thanks for the help. :(

I'd be inclined to say your tube is on the way out the door.. I had this happen to me a while back.. but it was on a crappy 14" monitor that I bought second hand to begin with.. so I just drop kicked the thing into the dumpster, went out and bought a new one..

    good luck with yours..

i have a packardbell monitor i use for my server so it stays off 98% of the time but it turns purple and if you hit the side in just the right spot it turns back to the right colors for a while

and its been like that for a few years now i guess i need to get a new one eventually

The monitor that sits on my older server is pink. It sounds like yours is on the way out. :sad2:

try adjusting your monitor cable; occasionally you'll find that the cable shielding degrades with time and you might be experiencing interference. I had a similar problem with a yellow shift instead of a violet shift, and it seemed that banging my monitor helped, but in reality it was simply the angle of the cable on the back of the monitor.

Or a new magnetic source has been added.

if your monitor is purple, it means that the "green" signal is not getting through. RGB - G = RB = magenta/purple.

likewise, if the monitor turns yellow, it's because the blue signal is not getting through. RGB - B = RG = yellow.

this is usually a loose cable problem, but there could be a bad connection somewhere inside the actual monitor, and when you hit the frame you're reconnecting that signal.

I think it's the cable, I tried twisting it a few times and it seems to clear up.

Thanks for all of your help and suggestions, I think the first step would be to replace the cables and see if that resolves the problem.

    Thanks again.

I had the same problem with my old 17" and it was the cable. Hopefully you have the one that screws on at each end.
