So my dell vostro was pretty slow and being difficult so I decided to reformat it. Now it is back to normal in terms of alot of things (firefox is great, as fast as it ever was with no complaints) but it freezes or is just very slow doing things that are actually important. I can open windows explorer but if i try to go to My computer it will freeze. If i try to shutdown/restart my computer it will freeze at the Shutting Down screen. I have left these two things running for long periods of time (overnight to like a day and a half, especially when it says 'installing updates do not turn off your computer') with no success. It also freezes when i try to safely remove hardware although after about 6 hours it finally told me it was ok to remove my ipod (even though i had unplugged it a couple hours earlier). I was going to try formatting again but i figured i might as well check out some advice before trying again, as i dont have much confidence it will do anything.

So, any advice you guys can offer me? thanks in advance

After formatting, did you go through and install all the drivers? Go to your device manager and make sure there are no exclamation points

download memtest, burn it onto a CD, then remove one stick of RAM then run the test

How about if you use the warranty you paid for and send the bitch back to Dell and let them fix it?

Did you reinstall the same OS, or did you upgrade it to Vista?

Try an anti-virus such as Cyberdefender. It will clean out the crap that is slowing down and freezing up your pc
