Lately it seems like i need more sleep.

I already sleep 7-8 hours at night, and during the day i get so tired/bored that i take a long nap which is another 2-3 hours.

and at midnight i get sleepy again.... i figure when i take such a long nap i would not be so sleepy around midnight but i still get so sleepy and my eyes feel so heavy i can hardly do anything like study or read. i guess its good in a way that my biological isnt messed up from taking a daytime nap.

but im wondering if there is something wrong with me since i sleep for a total of around 10 hours a day.

is there something i can do or eat to make my body less fatigue? i dont drink coffee and i dont want to start.. i dont want to become dependent on caffeine.

could it have anything to do with me starting to drink protein shakes now?

or maybe my sugar level is really low since i dont eat any more foods high in sugar?

Only thing I coudl suggest is not taking that long of a nap, you are into a cycle after 2-3 hours...try 20-30 minutes and wake back up and you should feel refreshed.

Have you increased activity a TON recently or anything?

Also make sure you get enough iron and aren't anemic...you are always tired with that.

What is the difference say from getting 8 straight hours of sleep as opposed to 4, 2, 2 hours?

It definately could be insulin related. I recently found out that there is a thing called diet-induced diabetes, where you previously didn't have diabetes, but because of diet changes (even healthy ones), now you do.

It could also be testosterone / hormone related, depending on how severe it is. In my case, my mind was cloudy from 6am - 11am, making it hard to function @ work. My test levels came back @ 224 (extremely low).

It could also be related not to the quantity of sleep, but the quality of sleep.

could be hundreds of things, do you take anti depressants? Age change? Diet related etc etc etc. Very hard to pin point. Get some blood work done and see what they find.

I worked with a guy who had a sleep disorder that worked like this...

He'd sleep 8 hours night, but his body would never get into REM sleep, or whatever stage of sleep signals your brain that your body has rested. So even though he slept all night, he was constantly tired. The doctors just ended up prescribing him a boat load of stimulants to keep him alert through the day, since apparently there wasn't much they could do about the sleep disorder itself.

I have "sleep paralysis", which is kind of the opposite. When you go into REM sleep, your body releases a hormone that basically relaxes/paralyzes your skeletal muscles (“muscular atonia"), so that you don't physically act out your dreams. With sleep paralysis, the body releases the hormone too quickly (right as your drifting off) or doesn't deactivate it quickly enough upon waking, so basically your concious, able to see and hear whats going on around you, but unable to move or speak

Only maybe 10-30 seconds... doesn't sound like long, but when you can't move or speak it feels like 10-30 minutes.

:werd: I'm going to the endo too for low test (just got second round of blood work taken) and I get sleepy ALL the time. On weekends it's not uncommon for me to sleep 10 - 14 hours. Usually on weekdays i get about 7 hours of sleep with 2 - 4 more from naps during the day. If I ever get less than about 9 hours at night i find myself absolutely exhausted during the day, especially around dinner time.

I used to sleep like 8 hours a night, then in the afternoon I would get tired and take a nap. Then I wouldn't get tired until like 2:00am. I'vefound as long as I stay busy during the day, I don't really feel lik I need a nap. As soon as I sit on the couch , its all over.

i never compiled a chart of my daily nutrient intakes.

i can say that i get sufficient carb intake from sandwich bread, rice, and pasta.

Maybe you're just burnt out/depressed/blue/tired like the majority of the population.

im not burnt out from anything... in fact i have so much spare time, i think the reason for being so tired is cuz im bored most of hte time.

    im not depressed.

just about any time of the day i can lie down in my bed and take a 2-3 hour nap and it doesnt seem to affect my daily sleep schedule (12am-8am)

i get this too. seriously...10-30 seconds feels like 10-30 minutes. definitely freaky sometimes, because you feel helpless and vulnerable.

start doing cardio, if you haven't been. Don't become obsessive with it, but maybe 2-3 times a week of 30 minute bike ride, light jog, fast pace walk.. just something to get the heart going
